PORTRAYAL STYLE: First and foremost, what do you wish to portray with the lamp? Look at your lamp and decide what style it is such as contemporary, traditional, antique, funky, etc. If you really cannot discern a specific style then you must decide what is the style or look that you wish to portray with this lamp. You will want the basic look or style of your lamp shade to compliment, not clash with the lamp style itself. You generally do not want a very ornate and detailed shade if you wish to portray the clean lines of a very contemporary lamp. Likewise, you do not want a clean cut Chinese coolee type shade for a lamp that you want to portray as a traditional style. Think in terms of like styles for the lamp and shade. This does not mean like colors, textures, size etc. but general style. Once you have decided the general lamp style that you wish to portray, then you can begin concentrating on other details.
You will enjoy experimenting with your lamps and because rawhide lamp shades are natural, each one is unique and can add to the room in a special way as it filters light in varying degrees. Your family and friends will appreciate the rich look and you will enjoy a simple, comfortable quality of life everyday with handcrafted rawhide lamp shades.
Whether it is styled in the form of a box or a chair on short legs, an ottoman is upholstered and can be used as a seat. Perhaps not as comfortable as an armchair, but sufficient as an emergency or alternative seating option in your home during parties or when a crowd of friends descend upon you. It can be stored away under a table and pulled out when needed - or rolled out if your ottoman is fitted with casters. Most well-made ottomans are solid enough to be used as coffee tables - and not just in an emergency! Many use their ottoman as a coffee table period! Your ottoman is usually lower in height than your chair or sofa, and is perfect as a coffee table. Some ottomans have a shelf under the top that can be used to store magazines, so apart from being upholstered they are more table-like than ottoman-like!
